Toby Jones won’t return as Dobby in HBO Max’s Harry Potter, as the series has found a new actor. The live-action TV adaptation is based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series.
British actor and presenter Lenny Rush (A Woman of Substance, Finding Father Christmas, Haunting of the Queen Mary) will portray Dobby the house elf in Season 2 of the Harry Potter TV show, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The casting announcement arrives just days after the first teaser trailer dropped for Season 1, confirming that the flagship chapter will officially be titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Who else is starring in Harry Potter Season 2?Harry Potter Season 2 will see the return of the leading cast members, including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
They will be joined by Katherine Parkinson as Mrs. Weasley, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, and Gabriel Harland as George Weasley.
Other members of the ensemble cast include Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, William Nash as Gregory Goyle, Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick, and Sirine Saba as Pomona Sprout.
The Harry Potter TV show has Francesca Gardiner as the executive producer alongside Mark Mylod. He will also direct various episodes of the series. J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman are also executive producing.
Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer (Dune, The Lion King, Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight) is serving as the composer on the TV series.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premieres on HBO on December 25, 2026.
