American rapper Nicki Minaj has raised concerns over the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, urging celebrities and influencers worldwide to speak out.
Speaking at the X Takeover event held at Tesla’s Giga Texas facility in Austin, Texas, Minaj explained that her personal ties to Nigeria, through her pastor and her Nigerian fan base known as the Barbs had drawn her attention to reports of violence.
She said: “For Nigeria personally, my pastor is from Nigeria, so I have a link to Nigeria because of him and of course, I have a lot of Nigerian barbs. But what I started seeing was the brutality in which Christians are being treated there just for being Christians and I thought, why isn’t anyone making a big deal out of this?”
Minaj lamented that issues deemed “uncomfortable” often go unaddressed, stressing the need for influential voices to spotlight the situation. “I’m hoping that more celebrities or people, influencers, come onboard to start speaking out about what’s happening to Christians in Nigeria. I look forward to doing more to help in that cause,” she added.
Her remarks have amplified global attention on Nigeria’s religious violence, highlighting calls for solidarity and advocacy ahead of the 2027 elections.
