IndiaAIFounders — Nissan’s Z Kaze concept is a delightfully ’90s build we’d love to drive

A while back, we covered a Nissan superfan building a T-topped Z for himself, but it looks like the Japanese carmaker itself was actually cooking up something similar behind the scenes. Meet the Nissan Z Kaze concept: a Nissan-commissioned Z build featuring custom engineering and a tasteful amount of tuner flair.

The vision of the team behind the Z Kaze was cruising with the top down along the Pacific Coast Highway in California. Hence, the gorgeous Pacific Teal finish is complemented by custom white leather upholstery. The T-top roof is also a fully custom job built specifically for this project.

And then there’s the sporty carbon-fiber aero kit along with a set of restored Nismo LMGT2 wheels. It’s a bit of a throwback look, and that’s on purpose. Nissan Americas senior vice president Ponz Pandikuthira shares: “The Z Kaze concept celebrates some of Nissan’s most iconic open-top sports cars, while recognizing the ’90s tuning culture that helped put Nissan and Nismo on the map.”

The build goes deeper as the Z Kaze also has upgrades under the hood; its 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 is souped up with parts from GReddy, Supreme SP, and Airinx. Nissan doesn’t mention how much power the setup has, but it’s probably a minor bump over the Z Nismo’s 420hp and 521Nm. The car’s suspension has also been tweaked with Nismo components.

The Z Kaze is currently on display at ZCON in Phoenix, Arizona, a major international car convention dedicated to the Nissan Z lineage. It’s also set to make an appearance at the Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach, California.

That said, it seems that the Z Kaze concept is a special one-off. We’d still like to see a T-top Z make its way to dealerships one day, but at least we have these wallpaper-worthy photos to fawn over until then.
