The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Northern States and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Plateau State Government to take urgent steps to end the continued killings and destruction of property in the state.
The chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Dr Yakubu Pam, made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday, expressing concern over the loss of lives and destruction recorded in affected communities.
“We are deeply saddened by the continued violence and call for an immediate end to the attacks. The killings and destruction are senseless, and the protection of citizens must remain a priority for government,” the statement said.
Northern CAN said the repeated attacks highlighted the need for a broader review of Nigeria’s security system to ensure that vulnerable communities are better protected.
It said Nigerians should be able to live, work, worship and raise their families without fear of being attacked in their communities.
The Christian body also expressed sympathy with families who had lost loved ones, as well as residents whose homes, businesses and livelihoods had been affected by the violence.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the families who have lost loved ones and to all those whose homes, livelihoods, and communities have been affected by the violence,” it said.
Northern CAN further called on the Federal Government to make restoring peace in troubled communities a priority.
According to the association, the safety of citizens should remain at the centre of governance.
The association also appealed to residents of Plateau State to remain united and avoid actions that could worsen tensions.
It urged them to pursue peace, justice and the protection of their communities, while calling on relevant authorities to act quickly to prevent further loss of lives.
