Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for 2027, Peter Obi, has urged the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to make his academic records publicly available amid reports of a legal action seeking Certified True Copies of his certificates.
In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, Obi said he had no objection to the release of his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, awarded in 1984, along with other admission and study records.
“I wish to state clearly that I have absolutely no objection to the release of these records,” Obi said.
He emphasized that transparency and accountability are essential for anyone seeking public office, calling on UNN and other institutions he attended to provide his records upon legitimate request and within the limits of the law.
Obi also challenged fellow presidential aspirants to open their educational qualifications to public scrutiny, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen trust rather than an attack.
“Doing so should not be regarded as an inconvenience or an attack. Rather, it is an opportunity to strengthen public confidence, promote accountability, and rebuild the trust of Nigerians in those who seek to govern them,” he added.
The former Anambra governor stressed that leadership must reflect values of transparency, integrity, and respect for institutions, noting that he welcomed scrutiny of his background as part of earning Nigerians’ trust.
