One worker sustained minor injuries following the collapse of a five-storey building under construction on Durban street, Wuse II, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Saturday.
In a statement on Saturday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through the press unit of its Abuja operations office (AOO), said the worker was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The agency said it received a report of the collapse and responded.
“The office received the alert at approximately 6:30 p.m. and immediately activated relevant stakeholders, including the FCT Fire Service,” the statement reads.
“The AYA Emergency Response Ambulance Bay ERAB team was deployed to coordinate search and rescue operations at the scene.
“Findings at the scene indicated that the incident was minor and involved a five-storey building under construction that had been partially pulled down.
“No life was lost. However, one worker sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.”
The incident comes amid a series of building collapses recorded in Abuja in recent months.
In September, a three-storey building in Wuse Zone 4 collapsed hours after occupants received a quit notice from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The FCTA’s department of development control said the structure had shown signs of distress. No casualties were recorded in the incident.
In May, at least five people were killed and 10 others injured after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in Durumi 3, near Gudu Market in Abuja.
Nyesom Wike, FCT minister, ordered a full investigation into the incident.
