On February 3, suspected terrorists attacked Nuku and Woro communities in the LGA, killing at least 75 residents and setting several houses ablaze.
About 150 people, mostly women and children, were also abducted. The victims were released in August after six months in captivity.

On April 20, suspected terrorists attacked another community in Kaiama, killing three soldiers.
The attackers reportedly attempted to overrun the facility but were repelled by troops.
Barely two weeks later, on May 2, gunmen attacked a police mobile force camp in Tenebo, Kaiama, killing three police officers and injuring several others.
Following the Wednesday attack, troops are expected to sustain operations in the area to prevent further attacks and track down the fleeing assailants.
