The Baltimore Orioles are most likely going to miss the 2026 MLB postseason despite their 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, but that is through no fault of Pete Alonso’s. Alonso, whom the Orioles signed to a five-year, $155 million contract this past offseason, has been as productive as ever in his new digs.
On Monday, Alonso was the primary catalyst for the Orioles in their win over the Blue Jays. He hit two home runs and drove in three runs, and in so doing, he pushed his totals on the season to 40 home runs and 108 runs batted in. This marked the fourth season in Alonso’s career in which he’s reached the 40-home run mark, which is exactly half of his seasons in the big leagues.
Over the course of a full 162-game MLB season, Alonso has never hit fewer than 30 home runs. The only time he’s done so was during the COVID-shortened 2020 MLB campaign, when Alonso hit 16 home runs in 57 games, which is a 45-home run pace over the course of a full season.

Suffice to say, the Orioles have certainly gotten what they hoped they would get from Alonso when they signed him to that huge contract. He’s been ridiculously consistent throughout his big-league career, and he doesn’t appear to be on the verge of slowing down anytime soon.
Alonso is only 30 years of age, and while that means that he’s starting to go towards the wrong side of the aging curve, there’s no reason to think that there is going to be a sudden drop-off — not when he’s just had one of the best seasons of his career in 2026.
This excellence of his year after year adds more fuel to the fire of yearning that New York Mets fans feel while seeing Alonso work his magic for another team. For the Orioles, they’re hoping that the signing of Alonso bears fruit in the form of team success starting next year, as they are close to being mathematically eliminated from postseason contention.
