The Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, has urged corps members to uphold discipline, integrity and selfless service throughout their service year.
Kubiangha gave the charge on Wednesday while declaring the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course closed at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State.
The ceremony featured the terminal parade and other activities marking the completion of the orientation exercise.
Representing the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, Kubiangha congratulated the corps members on successfully completing the orientation course.
He urged them to allow discipline to guide their actions, integrity to shape their decisions and service to remain central to their relationships with colleagues and members of their host communities.
The state coordinator acknowledged that some corps members could encounter challenges at their Places of Primary Assignment, PPAs, or find themselves serving in communities far from their homes.
He, however, urged them not to lose sight of the purpose of the NYSC scheme, advising them to remain resilient, respectful and committed to the ideals of national service.
Kubiangha said the corps members had arrived at the camp as young Nigerians from different backgrounds and parts of the country but were leaving as members of one family after sharing the discipline, challenges and experiences of the orientation course.
He explained that the orientation programme was designed not only to prepare corps members physically for the service year but also to equip them with values, knowledge and skills required to contribute to national development.
According to him, the lectures, drills, physical exercises, Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme, social activities and sensitisation sessions were structured to promote discipline, patriotism, leadership, tolerance, teamwork and selfless service.
Kubiangha reminded the corps members that they were ambassadors of the NYSC scheme, noting that their conduct at their various PPAs and host communities would influence public perception of the organisation.
He urged them to be punctual, diligent, respectful and responsible while maintaining cordial relationships with colleagues and members of their host communities.
“Respect constituted authority, maintain cordial relationships with your colleagues and host communities,” he said.
The NYSC coordinator also warned the corps members against activities capable of jeopardising their future or bringing the name of the Scheme into disrepute, specifically urging them to shun cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, fraud, violence and other forms of criminality.
“Resist peer pressure and the pursuit of quick wealth. Maximise the opportunities provided through the SAED programme and other learning platforms during their service year,” he advised.
Kubiangha commended camp officials, instructors, facilitators, medical and security personnel, administrative workers, catering and sanitation teams and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the orientation course.
