What is Other Mommy with Jessica Chastain about?Rob Savage-directed Other Mommy features Chastain as a supernatural entity that begins haunting a family by taking the form of its mother. The family’s eight-year-old daughter finds herself harassed by the spirit, while Other Mommy also begins to interfere in an already rocky marriage. The movie is based on the 2024 novel Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman.
The story is inspired by an incident involving Malerman’s brother and niece. One night, while his brother tucked his daughter into bed, Malerman’s niece wished good night to “Other Mommy”, seemingly speaking to no one. The bizarre incident spawned the novel, which would eventually be adapted into the Chastain-led movie.
Alongside the X-Men: Dark Phoenix alum, the cast includes Jay Duplass as the husband, Arabella Olivia Clark as Bela (the daughter targeted by Other Mommy), Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, Karen Allen, Sean Kaufman, Adam Silver, and Rosie Anne O’Gorman. The screenplay for the movie is written by Nathan Elston. It is distributed by Universal Pictures and is set to hit theaters on October 9, 2026. The movie is produced by James Wan and his production house, Blumhouse–Atomic Monster.
