Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has declared that his earlier endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office is no longer valid, saying the support has “expired”.

Oyinlola made the statement during an interview on Channels Television when asked whether he still stood by the endorsement he gave alongside other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Osun State in July 2025.

Responding to the question, the former governor simply stated: “It has expired.”

He explained that the endorsement was driven by the political realities in Osun State at the time, particularly concerns surrounding unresolved local government issues and the management of local government funds.

According to Oyinlola, he and others believed that the President was in a position to help address the challenges facing the state. However, he said the move failed to achieve its intended objective.

“We have a problem in Osun State. The local government funds are missing. The issue of who the rightful occupants of the local government offices are is not settled, and we believe that it's within the purview of Mr President to resolve that. But that is not coming,” he said.

The former governor described the endorsement as a political strategy aimed at finding a solution to the state's challenges, likening it to a tactical move in a game of chess.

“We did not achieve anything, and I exited it almost immediately,” he added.

Oyinlola further indicated that he has moved on from that position and is now backing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who is reportedly preparing to seek the presidency in the 2027 general election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

His remarks signal a significant shift in political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections, as discussions over potential presidential contenders continue to gain momentum.
