After winning the T20I series and ODI tri-series (also involving England), Pakistan will shift their focus on to the red-ball format. The first Test against Sri Lanka is slated to begin on Monday, November 9 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while the second will take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from November 17.

Pakistan have had a horrendous run in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, winning just two games and losing seven. Sri Lanka have played six Tests in the same period, winning one, losing two, and drawing three.

The hosts have made wholesale changes for this series, leaving out Shan Masood, Noman Ali, and Sajid Khan. They have also omitted Ali Usman and Abdullah Fazal, who were named in the squad earlier, and have brought in Tayyab Arif, Aamer Jamal, Ali Shabbir, and Saqib Khan. Mohammad Rizwan could not find a way back in despite scoring a double century in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Sri Lanka received a boost in the batting department with Pathum Nissanka back in the side. Young wicketkeeper Anjala Bandara is likely to make his debut, with the recently appointed captain Kusal Mendis expected to play as a specialist batter. Eshan Malinga received a call-up as well, with Kamil Mishara, Sahan Arachchige, Lahiru Udara, Niroshan Dickwella and Vishwa Fernando making way.
