Pakistan calls Houthi attack on Madinah power station ‘grave provocation’
Pakistan on Friday strongly condemned an attack by the Houthi militia on the Taibah power distribution station in Madinah on September 29, saying the "reprehensible attack" on civilian infrastructure supplying electricity to the Holy Prophet's (PBUH) Mosque was a “grave provocation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Friday.
In a post on X, MoFA said the attack was a matter of “deep concern and anguish” for millions of Muslims worldwide.
“The sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of worshippers and pilgrims must be respected under all circumstances,” the ministry added. Pakistan called for an immediate and unconditional end to reckless actions, saying they also constituted a grave threat to regional peace and security, it added.

The statement further added that the Pakistan reaffirmed its “unwavering solidarity” with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and expressed its full support for the kingdom's sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
“We stand firmly with Saudi Arabia in its efforts to safeguard the Two Holy Mosques, protect its people and ensure the safety of pilgrims,” the ministry said.
The statement said Pakistan had been and would continue to make all efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
Attack on Madinah power station
The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen's Houthis said on Thursday that the group had attacked a power distribution station in Madinah earlier in the week, putting one transformer out of service but without affecting the electricity network.
The coalition said an investigation and examination of drone wreckage had confirmed Houthi involvement in planning and carrying out Tuesday's attack. Coalition spokesman Maj Gen Turki al-Maliki said the attack had targeted the Taibah electricity distribution station at 5:11am local time on Tuesday.
He said the facility supplied electricity to the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah.
An operational review and examination of debris from the drone had established Houthi involvement in planning and carrying out what Al-Maliki called a “cowardly terrorist act”.
The attack had knocked one transformer out of service but had not affected the electricity grid, he added.
A Houthi military source, quoted by the Houthi-run Saba news agency, denied the accusation, calling it a “lie” and saying it was intended to cover up what he described as Saudi Arabia's failure to substantiate its earlier accusation that the Houthis had targeted Makkah.

Saudi Arabia said two weeks earlier that it had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone south of Makkah before it entered restricted airspace over the city.
The coalition described that incident as the second Houthi attempt to target Makkah since 2017, while the Houthis denied targeting Makkah or any other Islamic holy site.
The coalition said the Madinah attack was part of what it described as repeated Houthi attempts to target the Two Holy Mosques and “provoke” Muslims worldwide.
It said it would continue taking measures to protect the holy sites and pilgrims.
The latest escalation had been the most serious fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned Houthis since a UN-brokered truce had largely halted cross-border attacks in 2022.
Hostilities had resumed this year after the Houthis declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia in July and began attacking Saudi territory and shipping, while Houthi forces had also made major territorial gains along Yemen's Red Sea coast.
Saudi Arabia had responded with airstrikes in Yemen and backed government forces fighting to push back the Houthis.
