Paul McCartney has one issue with The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, starring Paul Mescal. The English musician sat down with Amy Poehler on Good Hang with Amy Poehler and shared what has been bothering him about the upcoming movies.
McCartney revealed that what has been bothering him about the Sam Mendes-directed features is that the Beatles members are depicted as being different heights. He pointed out that the four members of the legendary rock band were more or less the same height.
Speaking of his conversation with Mendes about the matter, he recalled, “I said, ‘Sam, I’ve got just one thing that I need to say to you. Paul’s a big small… So I don’t know how Sam is going to deal with it. But he sent me a picture, a still from the filming they were doing, and they’re crossing the Abbey Road crossing. And the Paul character is markedly smaller.”
Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney. All four movies are set to be released together in 2028, each focusing on one member of the group.
Who else is starring in Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies besides Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney?Harris Dickinson is slated to play John Lennon. Fantastic Four: First Steps actor Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison. They will also feature Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Meanwhile, Mescal will be playing McCartney.
The movies will also star Saoirse Ronan, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Anna Sawai, Aimee Lou Wood, James Norton, Harry Lloyd, David Morrissey, Leanne Best, and Bobby Schofield, among others. Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire will produce the four movies. The trio of scribes that will pen the scripts includes Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne.
Producer Pippa Harris said the movies will be released simultaneously (via The Hollywood Reporter). Each will be its own story.
