A 29-year-old Alberta drug dealer already facing seven weapons and other offences following a traffic stop in Brampton two months ago has been hit with more charges.

Peel Regional Police said Friday that the ongoing probe led to officers with the 21 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau seizing two more illegal firearms in the case.

Police said officers investigated a vehicle in the area of Cedarbrook Rd. and Edgewater Ct. on Aug. 10 at approximately 2:20 a.m. and seized a loaded illegal handgun. Three individuals were arrested and charged with multiple firearm-related offences.

Additional firearms seized

Then on Aug. 13, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police said investigators went to the residence of one of the accused from the original incident and located two additional firearms — a 9 mm handgun and a sawed-off rifle as well as several rounds of ammunition.

Navjot Singh, of Innisfail, Alta., has been charged with careless storage of a firearm, two counts each of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized and possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, careless storage of ammunition, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

The accused was also charged following the traffic stop with unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, tampering with serial number of firearm, obstruct peace officer, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

“I commend the dedication and professionalism of our officers at 21 Division,” Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in a statement.

“Through their investigative efforts and strong partnerships with our community, illegal firearms and ammunition were removed from our neighbourhoods. Every illegal firearm taken off our streets reduces the potential for violence and represents another step toward keeping our communities across Peel Region safe.”

Past conviction upheld

In 2024, Alberta’s Court of Appeal upheld a judge’s guilty verdict against Singh in a case involving a $4-million narcotics seizure, which required the convicted drug dealer to surrender to authorities. He was expected to resume serving the 10-year sentence the judge handed him in 2022.
