Texas A&M freshman running back KJ Edwards has served as the lone bright spot for the Aggies outside of transfer kicker David Olano, who remains perfect on field goal attempts, while the former five-star prospect has taken over as the starting running back, outright winning the job due this elite athleticism, cutting ability, vision, and decision-making, which will only get better with more experience.
Edwards now leads the Aggies with 55 carries for 360 yards, two touchdowns, and 6.5 yards per carry, and looks like the most explosive back since De'Von Achane. For those worried about Edwards' future given Texas A&M's 4-4 record and 1-4 SEC standing, third-year coach Mike Elko will likely spend the offseason building around his star back and rising sophomore Jamarion Morrow.
Even more impressive, Pro Football Network released its latest rush success rate ranking in college football, with KJ Edwards coming in fifth with a 56.4% win rate, meaning that more than half of the time, Edwards has picked up positive yards during his 55 carries this season, even with the offensive line struggles.
Looking ahead, assuming KJ Edwards and Jamarion Morrow stay put, I remain confident that OL coach Adam Cushing will fix the offensive line issues given the talent currently on the roster, combined with likely future additions, while freshman guard Sam Rosebourgh and sophomore Lamont Rogers have stood out.
With four regular-season games left, KJ Edwards will be the reason Aggie fans keep tuning in, starting with a road game against South Carolina in Week 10.
