Phasmophobia has sold more than 30 million copies across PC and console since entering Early Access in 2020, Kinetic Games confirmed alongside the return of its annual Crimson Eye Halloween event. The event is live through November 1, bringing blood moon conditions, tougher hunts, and limited-time rewards back to the ghost-hunting game.
From a 1,000-copy goal to 30 millionKinetic Games CEO and Phasmophobia game director Daniel Knight said his original target was to sell 1,000 units in the game’s first year. The milestone arrives during a lengthy Early Access run: the game remains available on Steam, PlayStation 5, PS VR2, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned but not yet dated.
The road has included some housekeeping. After apologising for problems with the Player Character Update, the studio issued patches and hotfixes, then released a second Quality of Life update with Restricted maps, streamlined Evidence collection, VR fixes, and additional ways for a hunt to go badly. Its Quality of Life updates have continued to add changes while the game remains in development.
“So much has changed since I started making Phasmophobia on my own at my parents’ house,” said Knight. “My initial goal was to sell 1000 units in the first year, so it’s hard to believe we’re celebrating 30 million. I’m so grateful to everyone who has played, and to the team who have worked alongside me on it. There is plenty more to come as we head towards 1.0.”
Crimson Eye brings faster ghosts and event rewardsCrimson Eye adds blood moon weather to a rotating selection of maps. Ghosts move faster and players’ sanity drains more quickly under those conditions, but successful investigations pay out more. The event maps are Tanglewood Drive, Camp Woodwind, Grafton Farmhouse, Bleasdale Farmhouse, Point Hope in its standard version only, Edgefield Road, Nell’s Diner, and Willow Street.

Crimson Eye’s rewards are split between community and personal goals, with extra timed bonuses scheduled through the event.

Version 1.0 is planned for 2027Kinetic Games has slated Phasmophobia’s 1.0 release for the second half of 2027 and plans to share development previews next year. Those previews are expected to cover major overhauls to ghost design and gameplay. For now, Crimson Eye is the immediate reason to clock back in; the full release remains further down the road.
