Rawlings has announced the Gold Glove finalists for the 2026 season and the Pittsburgh Pirates’ utility man, Jared Triolo, once again finds himself in the mix.
Triolo is one of the three finalists for the National Leagues’ best utility defender, with two-time American League Gold Glove winner Maricio Dubon and Ildemaro Vargas being the other two up for the award. Since the addition of utility defenders being added to the award list, Triolo has been a finalist all three times. 2024 was the inaugural season in which utility players were recognized for the award, and Triolo was the National League’s first utility man to win a Gold Glove.
2026 was another stellar year for Triolo where he was was far in a way the best defender on the Pirates. He was incredible at shortstop in place of rookie Konnor Griffin who missed extensive amounts of time due to injury. At short Triolo racked up 4 DRS across 527.2 innings. He also saw a significant amount of time at third base and totaled 5 DRS in 260.1 innings. Triolo’s 5 DRS at third is just one short of the other two finalists’ totals.
Not much gets by him. 🔒

Although he spent the majority of his time on the left side of the infield Triolo also made eight appearances at first base, six in right field and one in center. Third base was where he was rated the highest as a defender with his +5 DRS, a .975 fielding percentage and just two errors at the hot corner.
Triolo and Dubon have both received the award in the past, while this is Vargas’ first time finishing as a finalist for the award. The Pirates have two players receiving consideration for the award as second baseman Brandon Lowe is also a finalist in the NL. Staff writer Ethan Coulehan wrote a piece on Lowe and his stellar defensive season.
The winners will be announced on November 1.
