Hi, I moved countries and found a big room in a shared apartment (first two pictures, they were taken from where the door is, last picture is a floorplan). It has high ceilings, is 32m2 and has one window. It has a beautiful but old herringbone floor. I am moving most of my things and furniture over, and I am wondering what would be a good layout for the room? I came up with a floor plan like in the last picture but advice on design choices below is also appreciated.
What will remain in the room I am moving into (first two pictures):
- White clothing cabinets (see pic): CANT be moved
- Brown dresser: can be moved, I can put my TV or aquariums (small ones) on there.
- Shelves on the wall
What I will bring:
- L-shaped creme sofa, I don't know the exact dimensions, but added a picture for reference. It has 2 terracotta pillows.
- White ovalish coffee table with oak legs
- Three small aquariums (30L 3x and 45L 1)
- standing tripod lamp with light oak legs and creme lampshade, see pic
- 3 or 4 billy bookshelves with books/ornaments/lights (am considering to stick with the 3 I have, but add the height extensions on top because the ceilings are so high).
- Ikea Tonstad bed 160x200 cm and one little nightstand - Light oak
- Big TV with soundbar (see 4th pic)
- Oak table I will use as a desk (you can see it in the background in the 4th picture)
- Some plants
- I have one framed poster in a terracotta/orange tone (see picture 4, background), 70cm wide
- Two framed posters of Monets water lilies that should be hung together both are 70cm wide
What I might buy:
- Different color rug for underneath the sofa, as the coffee table and sofa are light colored already. What color/type rug is nice?
- A desk chair, see picture attached. I am doubting, as it is actually too expensive for me and I see a cheaper, secondhand, dark brown alternative without wheels. I thought the color would be nice with terracotta pillows on the couch and hung on the wall.
- Like mentioned above, extra Billy for books/ornaments, or height extensions for the three I have.
- One more pillow for the couch? In dark green perhaps?
- One of those rice paper lamps for the ceiling
The door is where the hallway is, meaning most noise comes from there, maybe keep the bed away? Desk in front of the window might be nice.
