Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have intercepted a vehicle conveying military uniforms and cartons of suspected illicit drugs.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri on Saturday.
The operation took place on Friday, September 18, 2026. According to the statement, operatives from the Command’s Anti-Cult Unit (CACU) in Asaba, acting on credible intelligence that a Sienna vehicle carrying suspected illicit drugs and military accoutrements was travelling from Onitsha towards Ondo State, mounted surveillance along the expected route.
At about 4:50 a.m., the team intercepted a green Toyota Sienna with registration number KP 527 AAA, driven by 45-year-old Isaac Urji of Abia State.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of cartons of suspected Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs, as well as military camouflage uniforms, boots and hats.
The suspect was immediately arrested. Investigations have begun to trace the source and destination of the recovered items and identify other persons connected to the consignment.
In a related development, the State Police Command arrested suspected cultists in an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected kidnappers and cultists in Ika South and Aniocha North Local Government Areas.
On September 18, 2026, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Sector III, Ubulu-Uku, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a covert operation at Alisheme Community in Ika South LGA.
This led to the arrest of Destiny Okafor, 18, and Sunday Bryan, 22, both suspected of involvement in cultism and kidnapping-related activities.
During preliminary investigation, the suspects disclosed their membership of the NBM Confraternity.
Exhibits recovered included one locally fabricated single-barrelled gun, one battle axe, two cutlasses, mobile phones and a laptop. The suspects remain in custody pending further investigation.
Also, on September 15, 2026, the Divisional Police Officer of Issele-Uku Division, acting on intelligence that suspected cultists were operating around Ogboli Quarter and other parts of Issele-Uku, led a combined team of Police Anti-Cult personnel, vigilantes, hunters and Forest Security operatives in a cordon-and-search operation.
Four suspected cultists were arrested, and two locally made pistols, one pump-action gun and six live cartridges were recovered. Investigation is ongoing.
Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism and the proliferation of illegal firearms across the state.
He urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring that such information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
