Fresh concerns have emerged over the credibility of the voter register in Edo State after an X user shared more disturbing photographs of voters allegedly generated using artificial intelligence (AI) and uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal for Udomi in Esan Central Local Government Area.
According to the claims circulating online, the issue goes beyond a few questionable images. A citizen reviewing voter registration data published on INEC’s website reportedly discovered that 21 out of 24 registered voters in one polling unit had profile photographs that appeared to be AI-generated.
The allegation has sparked fresh questions about the accuracy and reliability of the voter register, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation to establish how the images found their way onto the electoral commission’s platform.
The development has also attracted attention because Esan Central LGA is the home local government area of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
However, the authenticity of the images and the circumstances surrounding their appearance on the INEC portal have yet to be independently established. The allegations therefore require proper verification and a clear response from the electoral body.
With public confidence in the electoral process depending heavily on the credibility of voter records, Nigerians will be watching closely to see whether INEC addresses these concerns and explains what steps, if any, will be taken to investigate the matter.
