Prime Video has canceled a superhero show after just one season. The decision ends Nicolas Cage’s first regular television series role despite strong critical reception and a notable awards haul.

The combination of Marvel IP and Cage’s star power produced a strong opening. The show premiered at No. 2 on Nielsen’s U.S. Top 10 for original series, generating 851 million viewing minutes in its first week. Over six weeks, American audiences watched 2.6 billion minutes of the series, according to Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings (via Deadline).
But those numbers didn’t hold up. The series slipped off Prime Video’s daily Top 10 rankings faster than recent platform successes like Reacher and Ride Or Die. Executives at Amazon noted the show lacked the staying power required for renewal. Additionally, cost played a decisive role in the final call. Production required filming both color and black-and-white versions of the show, which made the project expensive. Streamers weigh production costs against viewership when making renewal decisions. For Spider-Noir, the math didn’t work.
Moreover, viewers won’t face a frustrating cliffhanger. Season 1 gave a largely complete narrative arc with only minor loose threads left open. This gives the cancellation a softer landing for fans who invested in the story. The Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television partnership continues despite this setback. The two companies maintain their multi-title deal based on Sony’s Marvel characters. Multiple projects remain in development, with one reportedly close to receiving a series order.
