Erin Marie Benavides, who was embroiled in 2010 accusations of having an “emotional affair” with Tony Parker while the basketball player was married to Eva Longoria , has reportedly died by suicide.
The New York Post , citing the Uvalde Leader-News , reported that the Texas prosecutor, 54, who was previously married to San Antonio Spurs star Brent Barry from 1998-2010, was found dead in her Port Aransas, Texas, home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Oct. 14.
Her body was discovered by police after Benavides’ husband’s friend called authorities about an alarming text she had sent.
Barry divorced Benavides, alleging she had an “emotional affair” with Parker, his Spurs teammate from 2004-2008.
For her part, Longoria claimed she discovered hundreds of texts from Benavides on Parker’s phone and told Extra the basketball player had also cheated on her earlier in the marriage and they divorced in 2011.
Most recent job was with anti-gang and border prosecution unit
Benavides, who denied the affair, worked as an assistant DA in Texas’ 38th Judicial District with its anti-gang and border prosecution unit from January 2023 to August 2026, when she resigned.
Port Aransas police said she appeared to be living alone and was unemployed, although her journals indicated she was seeking a new job.
Benavides’ husband, Pablo “Paul” Benavides, lives in San Antonio, Texas, and owns the residence where her body was discovered, according to the Leader-News .
Christina Mitchell, the 38th District District Attorney, said on Facebook that Benavides “boisterous laugh throughout the office will be greatly missed. Erin will be remembered for the time and attention she gave to her work as a Texas prosecutor, her dedication to the (Border Prosecutions Unit]) and the 38th District Attorney’s office and for her commitment to making Uvalde and Real counties safer communities.”
