ComingSoon can exclusively reveal the director attached to El Reflejo, starring Luciano Cáceres and Emmanuel Soriano. The upcoming psychological thriller is currently in production in Tarapoto, Peru.
Argentine filmmaker Augusto Tejada, who directed episodes of The Worst Trip Around the World and El secretario, will be helming the film. Peru’s Amazonian region will play a central role in the film’s narrative.
“From the beginning, I was drawn to the idea of telling a family mystery in a place where nature itself feels like part of the story,” said Tejada. “Tarapoto gives the film a physical and emotional landscape that we could not recreate anywhere else. The Amazon becomes almost another character in Carlos’ journey.”
Cáceres has starred in films such as Carne, El Taser, Nene Revancha, and episodes of Tafí Viejo, Verdor Sin Tiempo, Buenos Chicos, and others. Soriano has acted in films like El Correcaminos, Ramón y Ramón, Álbum de Familia, and episodes of Maricucha.
What is El Reflejo with Luciano Cáceres about?El Reflejo will follow Carlos, a young filmmaker who returns to Tarapoto with his father to complete a documentary about his family’s history. The film’s story focuses on the mysterious death of Carlos’ grandfather, which has remained unresolved for decades. After Carlos’ grandmother reveals that the story behind her death may not be the truth, his documentary takes an unexpected turn. The film begins as a personal journey into Carlos’ family’s past, and gradually becomes a search for answers that forces Carlos to question the people closest to him.
Quantico Films is producing El Reflejo in association with Lado B Films, with JP Ortiz, Joaquín Escobar and Phillip Chu Joy serving as executive producers. Franco Iza and Mario Pedernera wrote the film’s screenplay from Guillermo Castañeda’s story.
“Peru has incredible locations, talented crews and a highly competitive production environment,” said Ortiz. “With El Reflejo, we wanted the Amazon to be more than a backdrop—it is essential to the identity of the film. It also reflects our vision of building Peru into a production hub capable of welcoming international filmmakers and projects.”
