Racing Bulls Facing Tough Driver Decision With Three Options for Two Seats

Racing Bulls is facing a tough decision at the end of the season as they have three drivers for only two spots in the 2027 driver lineup.

Currently, Liam Lawson and Arvid Linblad occupy the two Racing Bulls seats. Lawson is now a seasoned veteran F1 driver who impressed during his one-race cameo with Red Bull.

Lindblad, on the other hand, is a promising rookie who was labeled as the next highly touted Red Bull junior.

This year, Lawson has been better than Lindblad, but only slightly, with both showing their driving chops.

Additionally, F2 driver Nikola Tsolov is leading the junior series championship and appears to be the next up in the vaunted Red Bull program.

However, with Lawson impressing at Red Bull and Racing Bulls, while Lindblad shows promise, it will be tough for Tsolov to unseat either driver.

Peter Bayer, the CEO of Racing Bulls, laided out why Racing Bulls are looking at it like a good problem to have.

“No, because Arvid and Liam are both doing a fantastic job. I believe Liam is currently ninth in the drivers’ championship, and he has shown in both qualifying and races that he is very fast. The same actually applies to Nikola, who is doing extremely well in Formula 2,” Bayer said.

The decision will come down to team principal for Racing Bulls to make.

“Ultimately, the driver lineup for next year is a decision that [team principal] Alan [Permane] has to make. So he will do what is best for the team,” Bayer added.

Unless one of Lindblad or Lawson experience a drastic fall-off in performance, the team will likely keep them in the fold and let Tsolov get a year with the team as the reserve driver, before eventually giving him a seat in 2028 or further down the line.
