It's like they're trying to make themselves look bad.

Unemployment can be a good thing. My roommate quit her job a couple of months ago because she had been employed since she was 16 and needed a little time to live life without professional obligations. She had six months of savings and a clear plan for what those six months would look like. That has served her well, but her situation is very different from my other friend, who lost her job and had no savings. It's much more demoralizing to lose your job than it is to quit, and it's much harder to get a job when you're unemployed than it is to get a job when you're employed.
