Zach Cregger reveals the reason behind the different versions of his Resident Evil movie. The video game adaptation hit theaters on September 18, 2026, and has received positive reviews from critics and audiences. However, the domestic version of the movie differs from the international one.
Cregger appeared on an episode of The Big Picture podcast, where he revealed that the reboot horror film was finished “maybe” two weeks before release. The Weapons director added that they missed the DCP deadline, resulting in two separate versions for the domestic and international releases.
He said, “It was pencils down at 11:59 on Saturday night because the DCP had to ship. There’s actually… the international version is different than the domestic version because I was still needing to make changes and like we missed our international finish line time, you know? So there are shots I’m not stoked on in the international version that like are better in the domestic. That’s how down to the wire it was.”
However, Cregger did not reveal the differences between the two versions. Additionally, he did not reveal any plans to release the finished domestic version to replace the international one.
