The player auction for the 2027 edition of SA20 got underway, as a total of 156 players are set to go under the hammer, with 95 of them being from South Africa and 61 from other countries. A maximum of 19 slots are to fill at the auction with Faf du Plessis, Nandre Burger, Trent Boult, Shimron Hetmyer, Mohammad Nabi, and Colin Munro among many others expected to trigger a bidding war.
Joburg Super Kings and MI Cape Town are two teams with maximum slots in the team (6 each), while Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape have five and two slots to fill, respectively in their squads. Paarl Royals and Durban Super Giants won't be attending the auction as they have all their slots filled.

The player auction for SA20 2027, the fifth edition of the tournament, will witness a tussle between four franchises for the 156 shortlisted players, with Paarl Royals and Durban's Super Giants already fulfilling their squad requirements.
Each team has a total purse of R42 million to assemble their squad for the next season, which begins on January 17.
