• A teaser confirms the car will include flared arches and a large rear wing.
  • Saleen will strictly limit production of its S650-based SR Widebody.
  • The car is being developed while Saleen seeks investment from enthusiasts.

Saleen has revealed it’s working on a wild new upgrade kit for the Ford Mustang, reviving the SR name the company used in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The American performance brand has experienced its fair share of trials and tribulations over the past decade, including a failed joint venture with a Chinese company that apparently stole 40 years’ worth of intellectual property from Steve Saleen. It has since refocused on what it knows best, and that is modifying Mustangs.

A teaser shared on Instagram gives us a glimpse of the new Saleen SR Widebody. It’s clearly based on the current S650-generation Ford Mustang, although the roofline appears to have been compressed in this rendering, altering the car’s proportions.

It’s hard to say what changes have been made to the front end, although it appears there is a new hood with some aggressive air vents. In addition, the car obviously rocks a pair of flared wheel arches and should also include a new front bumper and grille.

The most dramatic change is visible at the rear, where there is a large wing that looks significantly bigger than the one found on the new Mustang Dark Horse S/C. Saleen is also promising to make production of the new SR Widebody “very limited.” It’s reasonable to assume the exterior modifications will be complemented by plenty of mechanical upgrades, including tweaks to the car’s V8.

You Could Own A Tiny Stake In Saleen

The impending launch of the SR Widebody comes at an interesting time for Saleen. In late June, Carscoops revealed that Saleen had launched a fundraising campaign on Invown, allowing enthusiasts to buy a small stake in the company. This campaign was suspended in mid-July after just $1,500 was raised.

Saleen has since launched a separate financial push on Wefunder. The company has claimed its revenue could skyrocket from an estimated $12.3 million in 2027 up to $36.8 million in 2028, $102.5 million in 2029, $158 million in 2030, and $226.8 million in 2031. It also says development of the long-promised road-going S1 continues and that it’s also working on a next-generation supercar dubbed the S11. At the time of writing, Saleen had raised $119,501 from 82 investors on Wefunder.
