Saros just got easier to play without getting any less intense. The free Zenith update adds Slow Game Speed and Auto-fire, two accessibility options aimed at combat that many players found overwhelming. Neither one removes enemy projectiles.

Slow Game Speed slows the action down but keeps every bullet and every attack pattern in place. Players can set how strong the slowdown is. They can also choose whether it switches on manually or automatically. Auto-fire makes weapons shoot on their own while aiming at enemies. Reloading stays manual, including the timing for a perfect reload. Motion Sensor Aiming also joins the existing button remapping options.

That design choice matters. The screen stays as busy as before, but players get more time to read it. Players who switch them off keep the core challenge.

Finished players get a harder New Game+ and a boss rush

The other complaint was a thin post-game. Abebe Tinari, Housemarque’s design lead on Saros: Zenith, wrote the announcement on the PlayStation Blog. His post covers trophies and accessibility settings, plus fresh modifiers, a replay mode for finished saves and a mode built around fighting bosses back to back.

Eclipse Layers is the New Game+ mode. Each new Layer requires more Trial Modifiers to start a run. Players still pick which Trials they use, so they control how the difficulty climbs. At Eclipse Layer 2, protagonist Arjun earns a Crown and golden armor. The Crown grows more elaborate as the player’s Carcosan Modifier balance goes up.

The new modifiers are split evenly between Protections and Trials. Half can be used in a first playthrough. The other half unlock in Eclipse Layers. A new Modifier Mastery system fills up as players defeat enemies with a Carcosan Modifier equipped. Eventually, that modifier is marked as Mastered.

Overlord Rush is the boss rush. Housemarque frames it as a training simulation. Players try to beat the main game’s Overlords as fast as possible. They then compare times with friends and other players on a built-in leaderboard.

Support continues after a modest commercial start

The update arrives after reportedly soft sales. Alinea Analytics estimated roughly $22 million in first-two-week revenue for Saros, against a reported development budget of $76 million.

Against those numbers, a free patch of this size signals that Sony is still backing the game. It also gives two groups a reason to return. Owners who finished Saros now have Eclipse Layers and Overlord Rush. Players who bounced off the combat can now slow it down without losing what made it distinct.

Zenith was first shown at the September 3 State of Play. At that time, it was promised for later in the year at no extra cost to Saros players. It went live on October 19 for all owners. Its new trophies are earned through Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers and some of the new Carcosan Modifiers.
