Security operatives have rescued 10 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The corps members were among 15 NYSC members abducted last week by suspected kidnappers while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.

Their release followed a joint operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security and auxiliary personnel.

The Kogi State Police Command described the operation as coordinated, sustained and intelligence-driven.

Agencies are continuing efforts to locate the remaining five victims and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.

Reports indicated that the abductors contacted some of the victims’ families and demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for each corps member.

Police did not confirm whether any ransom was paid before the 10 were freed.
