Selena Gomez and Michael Fassbender’s upcoming X-rated movie has started production. Brady Corbet is directing the film. It is reportedly being shot in South Africa under the working title SALT FLATS.
Set largely in 1970s Northern California, the epic explores the region’s economy. The film also stars Cate Blanchett and Sadie Soverall. The Brutalist cinematographer Lol Crawley is handling the visuals across multiple film formats.

This description sets the film apart from a typical historical drama, but its adult content has not been revealed.
Crawley’s cinematography is another major aspect of the production. According to Shot on Film, he is reportedly shooting on 8-perf 65mm film using rare Iwerks cameras, while also incorporating 35mm and 16mm. The approach follows the large-format filmmaking techniques used on The Brutalist.
Gomez and Fassbender headline the cast alongside Blanchett, Soverall, and Alwyn. Their character details have not yet been disclosed. The ensemble gives Corbet a notable group of performers for his upcoming film.
Corbet’s previous project, The Brutalist, received 10 Academy Award nominations and won three Oscars. Crawley took home the Oscar for Best Cinematography for his work on the film.
With production underway in South Africa, Salt Flats is expected to reveal more details soon. The film currently has no confirmed release date or distributor.
