Seven people were injured on Sunday when gunmen opened fire on traders returning from a market along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday. According to the command, the attack occurred at about 4:30 pm on October 4, 2026, targeting a vehicle conveying traders from Kara Market in Bukuru.
Police spokesman SP Alfred Alabo said in a statement that the seven injured victims were receiving medical attention at the Military Clinic, Rukuba Barracks, Jos.
“The Plateau State Police Command has received with deep concern the report of a shooting incident that occurred on 4th October, 2026 at about 04:30 pm along Bukuru Expressway, Jos South LGA. Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle targeted was conveying traders returning from Kara Market, Bukuru, Jos,” the statement partly read.
Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to take full charge of the probe and ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
The command strongly condemned the attack and wished the victims a quick recovery. Tactical and anti-robbery teams have been deployed to boost security in the area, while intelligence efforts have been intensified to identify and apprehend those responsible.
