Johannesburg Water will interrupt the water supply to Stretford and Orange Farm, including all extensions, on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. The outage will run from 8:00 to 18:00, leaving residents with low pressure or no water for up to 10 hours. The utility announced the planned maintenance in its daily water supply status update for 2 October.

The interruption will affect all streets in Stretford and Orange Farm, including every extension. Both areas fall under Johannesburg Water’s Region G, which covers the city’s southern parts. Residents can expect anything from low water pressure to no water at all during the outage.

Johannesburg Water says the work involves a dummy run for the tie-in of new infrastructure. The new infrastructure is part of a project to relocate existing services. The utility says the work will bring improved service delivery and more reliable water supply in the area once it is complete.

Johannesburg Water: Prepare before the taps run dry

Households should store enough clean water for drinking, cooking and basic hygiene before 08:00 on Tuesday. Filling containers, bottles and buckets the night before can help families get through the day. Residents should also store water for flushing toilets, since the outage covers most of the working day.

Johannesburg Water will only provide an alternative water supply if the dummy run takes longer than 24 hours. Residents should therefore not expect water tankers during the planned 10-hour window. Schools, clinics and businesses in the affected areas may also need to make their own arrangements.
