A New York Comic Con panel took a dramatic turn when repeated audience disruptions prompted Helluva Boss star and co-writer Brandon Rogers to personally confront a heckler before event security stepped in.
The incident happened Thursday during a panel for the animated series at New York City’s Javits Center. Video shared online shows Rogers addressing a fan who repeatedly shouted over the speakers. After being interrupted several times, the actor directly told the person to stop.
Rogers said, “You need to shut the f— up right now. I’m going to jump over this fence and end you. It’s not cute.” The heckling continued, prompting Rogers to leave his seat and approach the audience. Once again, he said, “You need to get the f— out right now, or I will make you leave.” He then called on event staff to intervene by asking, “Isn’t there someone in a vest? Bulletproof one, maybe?”
When the disruption continued, Rogers grew more frustrated with the lack of an immediate response. He said, “Is anyone working this f—— event? Can someone please get this [expletive] the hell out of here? I swear to God.”
New York Comic Con organizers apologize for handling of Helluva Boss panel disruptionFollowing social media backlash regarding convention security protocols, ReedPop, the production company behind New York Comic Con, issued a formal statement acknowledging that event personnel failed to act swiftly enough.
“We are aware of a repeated disturbance from a fan in the audience during Thursday’s Helluva Boss panel,” a ReedPop spokesperson told Variety. “While the situation was addressed after the panel, action was not taken swiftly enough, and we apologize to the panelists, moderator and fans in attendance for the disruption. We are taking steps to ensure any future incidents are addressed in a swifter manner.”
The panel featured Rogers alongside Vivian Nichole Nixon, Erica Lindbeck, Bryce Pinkham, Harvey Guillén, series creator Vivienne Medrano, and moderator Perri Nemiroff. Richard Steven Horvitz also joined the discussion.
Rogers helped develop and write Helluva Boss, which follows characters in the underworld. The panel was intended to celebrate the series and its cast, but repeated interruptions shifted attention toward the disruption and the response from event staff.
