Simon Pegg is returning to the horror genre with a new project that shares great similarities with one of his most iconic films. The upcoming movie follows an American visitor who finds himself caught up in the dark secrets of a strange English town, a premise that will instantly remind fans of Pegg’s 2007 cult classic Hot Fuzz.

According to a report from Deadline, Pegg has joined two-time Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti in the upcoming horror-thriller Boutique. Although specific details regarding Pegg’s character name remain under wraps, he will portray a “reclusive author.” The film will be written and directed by Jim Gavin.

The official story of Boutique follows Calvin, an American tourist who travels to an eerie English seaside town that inspired the work of his favorite reclusive author. However, his visit takes a disturbing turn when he becomes entangled with a murderous secret society operating throughout the town.

Apart from Hot Fuzz, Pegg’s acting credits also include The World’s End, Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek, The Undeclared War, and The Boys.

The new horror film brings together a notable mix of talent

Unlike Hot Fuzz, Pegg will not lead the upcoming horror movie. Instead, it will be led by the two-time Oscar nominee, Giamatti. The actor gained widespread recognition for his performance in movies like The Holdovers and Sideways. He also starred in the horror film Morgan and the horror comedy John Dies at the End. He will next be seen in Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut and Tom McCarthy’s A Statement.

Meanwhile, Boutique will mark Gavin’s feature directorial debut after creating Lodge 49, an AMC comedy series that starred Wyatt Russell. In addition to starring in the horror movie, Giamatti will also serve as a producer. The other producers include Chris Dodds, Charlie Alderman, Greg Field, James Harris, and Mark Lane, while Jacob Jaffke is attached as an executive producer.

Additional casting and an official release date have yet to be announced as the project continues early production.
