The director of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to helm a feature film remake of an iconic ’60s TV series. Fresh off the widely acclaimed MCU installment, filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton has added another major project to his movies list.
According to Deadline, Destin Daniel Cretton will develop and direct an upcoming movie adaptation of Hawaii Five-O at Paramount Pictures. Chris Bremner is penning the script with Noah Oppenheim as producer. The project went to Paramount first because the original television show aired on CBS, owned by Paramount Skydance.

Created by Leonard Freeman, Hawaii Five-O follows Detective Steve McGarrett, played by Jack Lord, who leads the titular special division of the state police that has been tasked with taking down organized crime on the Hawaiian islands. The series featured McGarrett’s iconic catchphrase, “Book ’em, Danno!” that he would say at the end of most episodes.
2010’s Hawaii Five-0 was a reboot of the original series and also aired on CBS for ten seasons. This show starred Alex O’Loughlin as Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett and Scott Caan as Detective Sergeant Danny Williams.
Meanwhile, Destin Daniel Cretton, who will direct the upcoming Hawaii Five-O remake, has recently received widespread acclaim for his work on Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The movie broke multiple box office records and is currently the third highest-grossing film of all time.
The filmmaker’s upcoming projects also include a live-action Naruto film for Lionsgate, based on Masashi Kishimoto’s iconic manga of the same name. Further details about the highly anticipated project remain under wraps.
