A sprint finish to win a 60K race.
In one of the more grueling contests imaginable, that’s how Lauren Gregory came out on top Aug. 27.
Gregory, the former superstar track and cross-country runner at Fort Collins High School, won the prestigious Orsières–Champex–Chamonix in dramatic fashion.
It’s a trail race that goes 60 kilometers through the Alps at the Hoka Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc. The race spans about 37 miles through the Swiss and French Alps.
Gregory was in third with just a few kilometers to go. She then made her move and with just a kilometer left passed the leader, Naomi Lang, to win the prestigious title by less than 3 seconds in a race that took 6 hours to complete. Gregory's time was 6 hours, 8 minutes and 7 seconds.
