The NBA witnessed one of the season’s most extraordinary individual performances, and potentially one of the greatest in league history, on Wednesday. Victor Wembanyama delivered the historic display, and the San Antonio Spurs superstar’s unbelievable performance left his teammate Dylan Harper convinced the French big man is the next Wilt Chamberlain.

Speaking about Wembanyama’s incredible night after the game, Harper couldn’t help but compare his teammate to the legendary NBA center.

“He basically Wilt,” Harper said.

Harper’s comparison was more than just a compliment, as Wembanyama joined Chamberlain in the NBA history books with his remarkable performance. Before Wednesday, Chamberlain was the only player in league history to record at least 50 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks in a single game, achieving the feat in 1961. Wembanyama has now joined him in that exclusive category.

Harper also had more praise for the Spurs superstar.

“Dominant,” he added. “When he gets in the vicinity of the paint, he’s just unstoppable to guard. So I mean we just gotta keep on finding ways to get him down there and then let him operate.”

The 22-year-old finished with a career-high 52 points, 24 rebounds, two assists, eight blocks and two steals in just 34 minutes of action. He also became the second player since 1973 to record at least 50 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks in a single game, joining Bob McAdoo in the exclusive group.

Wembanyama’s dominance was already evident during the first half. He headed into the locker room with 29 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks and two steals.

With another historic performance under his belt, Wembanyama has sent a strong message to the rest of the league. If the 22-year-old can maintain this level of dominance throughout the season, he could emerge as a serious MVP contender while potentially leading San Antonio toward another deep playoff run.

Meanwhile, Wembanyama’s incredible display also helped the Spurs extend their winning streak to six games after opening the season with consecutive losses. San Antonio improved to 6-2 following Wednesday’s thrilling victory over the Mavericks.
