Steve Burton, who plays Jason on General Hospital, revealed that a new male actor will soon join the cast. He hinted that the new actor will take on a familiar character in Port Charles. This revelation came while discussing the challenges faced when a portrayer isn’t aware of the character’s history and relationships in soap operas.

Steve Burton possibly lets a General Hospital recasting slip

During a conversation on the That’s Awesome podcast, Burton initially stressed the importance of knowing the history of the character in any soap opera. He discussed that if one isn’t familiar with it, the portrayal could be impacted. Providing an example, he later surprisingly revealed a General Hospital recasting. He said, “So, there’s a guy on the show right now who came on the show, and you guys will see him. I had some scenes with him — I can’t say what it is yet — but I said, ‘Do you know exactly what’s happening?”

He stated that the scenes between them were connected to Port Charles’ past. Those past events affected this character’s recent actions and behavior, now played by the alleged new actor. At the time, Burton asked the male actor if he was aware of what exactly was happening. However, he found that the actor wasn’t very familiar with the character’s past stories. And that he had made up another backstory in the back of his mind. The actor also admitted that he had no idea what was going on.

Burton revealed that he stepped in to offer him information about the scene and the character. He explained, “He’s been an actor for a long, long time. He’s been on some prime-time shows. He’s done this for a long time. So I said, ‘Do you mind if I just tell you kind of, you know, what this is, who this is, why they’re doing it, and what the involvement for me is?’ And he goes, ‘No, I would love [for you] to.” He further explained how even knowing the bond between the characters helps an actor easily understand important aspects. This includes why a dialogue is being said, the intention behind it, and how it should be interpreted.
