After the official trailer for The Asylum‘s Street Fighters, the mockbuster film is out now. The flick arrives on digital on October 2— just two weeks before Capcom‘s big-budget Street Fighter film hits theaters on October 16.

For those unversed, The Asylum specializes in low-budget films that copy the titles and release dates of major Hollywood blockbusters. Street Fighters inevitably serves as a mockbuster to capitalize on Legendary and Paramount’s big-budget Street Fighter movie.

Directed by Brian Nowak from a script penned by Jacob Cooney and Jason White, this knockoff film sees the world’s best martial artists gather for a championship organized by a mysterious group, only to realize that they are fighting for their lives against a sinister plot.

The plot of the original game-based Street Fighter, on the other hand, reads, “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

What do we see in the Street Fighters trailer?

In the Street Fighters trailer, fighters are shown to receive anonymous, stamp-free plain envelopes that invite them to a secretive contest. This tournament apparently has multi-million dollar payouts, no judges, no time limits, and fights that are not necessarily to the death. However, danger is immediately apparent.

The trailer for the mockbuster hints that something dark and supernatural is happening behind the scenes. As the dialogue warns, “Hell is about to open up on Earth,” and also references a “blood moon.”

The cast members for Street Fighters include Yomade Adefeso as one of the lead martial artists featured in the tournament, Diamond Marie Buckley as part of the primary cast of competing fighters, as well as Adam Michaels in a key role.
