The actor will play Brom Bones in the adaptation of Lindsey Anderson Beer’s forthcoming debut novel. Beer is also set to direct and adapt the book for the screen.
The novel reimagines The Legend of Sleepy Hollow from Katrina Van Tassel’s perspective. Sweeney will portray Van Tassel, who serves as the central figure in a supernatural love triangle. The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and erotic thriller elements into a modern retelling.
LuckyChap is producing alongside Beer’s Lab Brew banner and Sweeney’s new Honey Trap banner. Hollow marks Honey Trap’s first film as producer. The company, led by President of Production Kaylee McGregor, recently secured a first-look deal with Sony Pictures.
Cameli is coming off his breakout role in Amazon’s Off Campus, which attracted 36 million viewers in its first 12 days. He also recently appeared in Until Dawn and The Alto Knights. The producers moved quickly to cast the two male leads opposite Sweeney, though the role of Ichabod Crane remains unfilled.
Beer’s novel sold to Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in a highly competitive auction. The book will receive a global translation at its fall 2027 launch. Beer previously directed Stephen King adaptation Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, which broke Paramount+ viewership records.
Sweeney most recently starred opposite Amanda Seyfried in Lionsgate’s The Housemaid, a major box office hit. She also earned critical praise for her portrayal of boxer Christy Martin in David Michod’s Christy. Gersh, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Viewpoint, and Hansen Jacobson represent Cameli.
