The weeks, and the releases, continue to count down to the end of the year. This past week had two releases queued up as we get down to the final scores.
Fantasy Critic League – Like Fantasy Football, but for Video Games
One of the releases for the week was a big one… and the other, not so much. Not yet, in any case. But before we get to the details, here is where we stood at the end of last week.
Week 44 Scores
With just the two releases, the expectation was for not much in the way of changes… or updates… or much of anything.
And when we got to Tuesday evening the first title of the week dropped, which was World of Warcraft: Forever.
WoW Forever
In something of a fit of enthusiasm, I picked that. We’ll see if I regret it.
- World of Warcraft: Forever has released!
- [Picked by TAGN HQ (Wilhelm)]
Technically though, it wasn’t actually going to release until 15:00 Pacific Time the next day, but whatever. So maybe having no reviews yet was to be expected.
While I was waiting for reviews the league came in with another rap on the knuckles for Shawn.
- One Piece: Grand Gourmet
- [Picked by Crash and Burn Games (Shawn)]
- Score has gone DOWN from 75.0 to 73.8
That was not enough to stir up the rankings however.
However, then came the first reviews for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
This 2026 update of the 1998 fan favorite entry in the Zelda series came in hot.
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (2026)
- [Picked by Corr’s Creative Collective (Corr)]
- Now has a score of 95.6
That is the highest opening score I can recall seeing in the league so far, and it was built on a lot of 10/10 reviews. The main danger to that score seemed to be sites that only score in whole numbers thinking it was not perfect so only giving it 9/10 on the review.
When that hit the launch date later that evening, Corr shot up to second position in the league.
- Publisher Score Updates
- Corr’s Creative Collective (Corr)
- Score has gone UP from 95.3 to 125.5
- Moved from 6th place to 2nd place
- Anthania Interactive (Ula)
- Moved from 2nd place to 3rd place
- Play Forever Mwahahaha (Shintar)
- Moved from 3rd place to 4th place
- TAGN HQ (Wilhelm)
- Moved from 4th place to 5th place
- S Class Warfare Studios (p0tsh0t)
- Moved from 5th place to 6th place
- Corr’s Creative Collective (Corr)
And that kind of ended up the week as far as updates went. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time managed to hold on pretty well, ending up at 95.1 as the week ended.
Then there was WoW Forever, which now has just one review on Open Critic. It is a top critic review, so I just need two more before the end of the year. As Corr pointed out on Discord, both WoW Classic and WoW Anniversary Classic got enough reviews to get scores on the site, which gives me hope that WoW Forever will as well.
All of which left the scoreboard looking like this.
Week 45 Scores
Arhanta remains pretty solidly in first place, but now Corr is just 15 points shy of taking the lead. That depends on his final pick, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, which is set to come out on December 10th, the last day of releases for the season at this point.
There was one bid this week in the league as Shintar dumped the now delayed until 2027 title The Duskbloods.
- Bids in TAGN League
- Stage Tour
- Won by Play Forever Mwahahaha (Shintar) with a bid of $7
- Dropped game ‘The Duskbloods’ conditionally
- Stage Tour
Stage Tour also lands on December 10th, so there will be two titles that day that might determine the final standings.
The league now predicts Shintar for third place, but that depends heavily on her other pick, Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow, which is still just estimated for a 2026 release.
Overall, six of the thirteen players in the league have all nine titles launched at this point, but seven more remain with titles in play.
There are currently still nine titles with solid ship dates on the coming attractions list.
Week 46 Coming Up
Next week sees just one title launching, Warhammer Survivors, one of the many Warhammer titles on the list for this year. And, of course, we’ll have to see if WoW Forever can catch a break on reviews.
