Doyin Tanko has stepped aside as National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, announcing that he will now serve directly alongside Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in a new advisory capacity.
Tanko, who has been a prominent figure in mobilising grassroots support for Obi since the 2023 elections, said the decision was part of efforts to strengthen the movement’s structure and ensure more effective coordination ahead of the 2027 polls.
“This is not a resignation from the struggle. It is a transition into a new role where I can contribute more strategically to Obi’s vision for Nigeria,” Tanko explained.
He noted that the Obidient Movement had grown into a nationwide force, requiring decentralised leadership and broader participation from younger activists and professionals.
The announcement comes as Obi intensifies consultations with allies and stakeholders, with Tanko expected to play a key role in policy communication and strategic outreach.
Observers say the move reflects Obi’s push to integrate grassroots mobilisation with formal campaign structures, ensuring that the energy of the Obidient Movement is channelled into issue-based advocacy and electoral preparation.
