Per an exclusive report from Variety, Odom Jr. is confirmed to be joined by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. Ellis-Taylor received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for portraying Oracene Price in King Richard. Her other notable works include Lucky. Likewise, Odom Jr. has an impressive track record, too. The 45-year-old is a Tony winner and has also received Academy Award nominations. His credits include Hamilton, One Night in Miami, and more.

Taylor’s upcoming project, Get Lite, will be led by Storm Reid and former NFL star Ceyair Wright. The cast will also feature Woody McClain, Khayr Bullock, and Tylil James. Variety’s update further states that Asante Blackk and Jodie Turner-Smith are currently in advanced talks to land major roles.

Storm Reid and Ceyair Wright lead a dance drama rooted in Harlem culture

The storyline of Get Lite centers around a talented but sheltered dance student, Saunders (played by Ceyair Wright), who has very little experience outside his familiar setting. However, his life changes when he discovers the New York City subway system. He meets new people and experiences a different world.

Storm Reid plays a girl who introduces him to new experiences and helps him see life differently. Litefeet, which is a fast, energetic street-dance style that originated in Harlem, New York, remains a major part of the film’s narrative.

The synopsis of the upcoming Paramount Pictures dance drama, per IMDb, reads, “Saunders, a headstrong Bronx teenager, is caught between his love of Litefeet subway dancing and his strict father’s insistence on becoming an engineer.”

Storm Reid is also producing the movie alongside Bill Karesh, Robyn Simpson, Kenya Barris, Anni Weisband, and Solome Williams. In addition to directing, Teyana Taylor is producing the project alongside Courtney ‘Coco’ Gilbert under their production banner, The Aunties.

Get Lite is scheduled to hit theaters on August 20, 2027.
