The Geely EX2 continues to make a name for itself around the world, as it just claimed a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program. It should be noted that the evaluating agency just deployed its new safety criteria, with the EX2 being one of the first vehicles to be examined under it.
ANCAP believes its revamped assessments, which incorporate new technology and updated safety challenges, are better suited for testing modern cars. Right away, the EX2’s five-star safety rating shows promising results for the updated criteria, and for entry-level EVs in general.

Under the Safe Driving evaluation, the EX2 scored a decent 79% as it was able to detect incorrect seatbelt use. Moreover, seatbelt restraints adjusted in real time to better suit the posture and sitting position of the occupant. ANCAP also noted the EX2’s driver-attention monitor, which proved to be helpful in spotting distractions.

In terms of Crash Avoidance, Geely’s fully electric subcompact received top marks for its capable suite of advanced driver-assist systems. These include a finely tuned autonomous emergency braking feature and lane support functions. However, some lapses in slower-speed scenarios led to errant turns, unsafe reversing, and pedal misapplication.

As for Crash Protection and Post-Crash assessments, the EX2 performed well, with good crash test results and effective battery-voltage isolation. Although ANCAP pointed out an “elevated risk of leg injury” for the driver, commendable post-crash fire risk management was also noted.
Ultimately, the EX2 still managed to collect a five-star rating, despite some faults. With local prices starting at well under P1 million, Geely’s subcompact EV could be one of the safer models in that price bracket.
