Bethesda Game Studios has finally named its next Elder Scrolls game. The title appeared at the end of a video called Celebrating 40 Years of Bethesda Game Studios. In it, Todd Howard said fans always ask about Elder Scrolls 6. He called the anniversary a “perfect time” to share the game’s real name. The logo followed right after.

This is the first new teaser for the game since E3 2018. The game was first announced on June 10, 2018, when it was described as being in pre-production. That early reveal is a move Howard has since expressed regret over.

Lore text places Sentinel in Hammerfell after Skyrim

The teaser contains no gameplay. Instead, an Elder Scroll emerges from a sandy landscape before the new logo appears. Its lore text is credited to Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell. Skyrim takes place in 4E 201, so the date on that text puts the new game a few years later.

The title itself points to a specific place. Sentinel is one of the major cities of Hammerfell, the Redguard homeland, and sits on the Iliac Bay. For players, the teaser confirms the long-rumored Hammerfell setting.

The name had also been hinted at. In August, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma wrote that she had watched a live playthrough of the game. She typed its subtitle as eight asterisks, and Sentinel has eight letters. On reveal day, she congratulated the studio on X. She called Sentinel the next chapter of The Elder Scrolls and a fitting way to mark the studio’s 40 years.

No platforms are confirmed, and the wait remains long

The reveal left key questions open. That has players guessing again about whether Sentinel will be Xbox-only. Microsoft still has not said. A document made public in 2023 during the FTC v. Microsoft case suggested a launch on Xbox and PC. No platforms have been officially announced.

The team behind the game has recently changed. In a studio update on July 17, 2026, Howard said The Elder Scrolls VI is the studio’s main focus, with most of the team working on it. He added that it and Fallout 5 are being built on Creation Engine 3. That update followed 379 layoffs across ZeniMax and Bethesda Game Studios in Maryland. The cuts were part of a wider Xbox restructuring.

The studio is not promising more news soon. Work on the game is continuing, and it will be some time before there is more to share, Bethesda Game Studios said in a post on X. The studio added that it was glad to finally reveal the name and location.

Players should plan for a long wait. On November 3, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier wrote on Bluesky that the game is still more than two years away. That is his reporting, not a window from Bethesda, which has yet to set any date.
