Imagine being a cat. You've spent months training your human to serve breakfast at precisely 6 a.m. Then, overnight, this incompetent employee decides to make you wait another hour. Unacceptable! You'd be filing a formal complaint with management, too, if you weren't already busy screaming directly into someone's ear.
Cat pawrents have probably spent the past few mornings being rudely awakened by a furry face hovering inches above their own. Maybe it starts with a polite little meow. Maybe there's a paw gently tapping your cheek. Either way, the situation quickly escalates when breakfast doesn't magically appear.
You may as well replace your alarm sound with meows because cats will sing the song of their people for hours until you arise. It may start as quiet meows, but give it ten minutes and it'll reach a crescendo that could wake the whole neighborhood. And there's no snooze button on cats with full lung capacity. Putting a pillow over your head won't help when your opera singer decides to perform right next to your ear.
Don't even think about pretending to be asleep. Cats have all morning to conduct their little hunger protests. They'll sit on your chest, breathe directly into your nostrils, and stare at you until you crack. You're lying there wondering why you willingly adopted an animal who treats you like a slave.
The worst part? Sometimes the food bowl isn't even empty! There's still a perfectly respectable amount of kibble sitting around the edges, but your purrecious little angel has decided those pieces are no longer edible. Better get up and shake the bowl before someone calls animal control.
We'd love to explain that daylight saving time has ended and breakfast is now scheduled for an hour later, but negotiating with cats is a losing battle. They've never cared about our schedules, and they're certainly not starting now. As far as they're concerned, the only clock that matters is the one in their stomach.
So much for enjoying that extra hour of sleep. Our cats have officially rejected the time change, and we're just going to have to live with it.
Fall back? More like get up and fill the food bowl!
