If you’ve been waiting over the past 10 years to buy a yellow ND-generation Mazda MX-5, the wait is over—but you will need luck on your side.
As the headline conveniently mentions, only six Miatas will be offered in Sunflower Yellow. The catch: Who gets to actually buy them will be determined via lottery at this year’s Mazda Fan Festa, happening at Fuji Speedway on October 3 and 4.

Japanese dealerships Kanto Mazda, Shizuoka Mazda, Tokai Mazda, and Koshin Mazda have worked together to bring this ‘Mazda Roadster FSR Ver. 2’ to life. Kanto Mazda has published these computer-generated images to announce the limited-run ND; the Japanese statement, translated to English, reads, “Our goal wasn’t simply to sell limited-edition cars. It was to create opportunities for people to discover new value and deepen their love for Mazda through ‘special products and experiences unique to Mazda Fan Festa 2026.’ This project embodies that sentiment.”

Each unit is valued at ¥4,871,979 (around P before taxes), but will be offered at a special price of ¥4,708,000 (around P before taxes). The base car, an S Special Package powered by the 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine—and with a six-speed manual, yay—comes standard in Jet Black Mica, but Mazda E&T, the carmaker’s official concept builder, will do the full repaint to Sunflower Yellow. This covers not just the exterior, but also the interior upper door panels and the A/C vent trim. The key fob will come in a matching color, too. Genuine Mazda aero bits will complete the package.

Just a few months ago, the ND finally got a green paint job called Zinc Green Metallic. Bluish metallic flakes in the formulation change up the appearance of the finish based on lighting conditions.
In case you didn’t know, the Philippines is the second-largest market for the MX-5, with only the carmaker’s home market of Japan pulling in more sales for the beloved roadster. Mazda Philippines has also confirmed that the Miata is now its best-selling model. It would be great if one of the Sunflower Yellow NDs ended up in our market, but that really depends on the luck of the draw. Best wait for a left-hand-drive version.
