Hello Games continues on its decade long roll of bringing No Man’s Sky to as many people as possible, this time by putting its epic space exploration experience on your phone… as long as you have an iPhone… or an iPad.  (Android next maybe?) Does that put it on more platforms than Skyrim now?

No Man’s Sky – Forsaken

But the game landing on a new platform isn’t all there is to the Forsaken update.  There are some big things arriving in the game itself.

The Forsaken expansion update screen

Since the Voyagers update I have been mildly obsessed with getting some more corvette related content, so when they start talking about forsaken traders having new corvette modules… I am there.

I want to go get the new modules… and see what the community ends up doing with them.  When it comes to Reddit, the No Man’s Sky is both calm and very creative.

But beyond that, I am unreasonably interested in this particular item from the release notes, hidden down in the quality of life section:

Added a corvette landing pad to planetary trading outposts.

Corvette landing pad?  Did you say “corvette landing pad?”  Yes please… as in yes that is a step in the right direction and please make it something that can be used for bases at some later date.  Seriously, why is there a corvette landing pad for planetary bases already?  Just give me a station landing pad.  I know it would be huge… but we have whole planets at our disposal, we have the space.

Anyway, going through the release notes, these are they key items they chose to mention.

  • Forsaken Traders
    • A variety of haunting mementos have manifested around the galaxy; appearing at infested outposts, deep-space hulks, derelict freighters, and buried between the bones at planetary digsites.
    • Travellers will need to apply caution when harvesting these mementos, as prolonged exposure will attract the attention of hostile boundary horrors.
    • Drawn to these collectable curios, forsaken traders can now be summoned at space outposts. Trade mementos to these enigmatic shopkeeps in exchange for a range of new spooky corvette modules, including cockpits, habs, and biomechanical hull structures.
    • Forsaken traders also stock a living Larva Cannon Multi-Tool, purchasable for the right quantity of preserved grubs.
    • Determined salvagers can earn a unique player title and Larva Tank helmet customisation.
  • Minimal HUD Mode
    • In-game Heads Up Display (HUD) elements, such as the compass, hazard protection, and mission notifications, can now be set to “Minimal” mode, reducing visual noise for experienced players.
  • Space Courier Missions
    • Travellers with a corvette and gravitino coil can now undertake package courier missions from deep-space outposts.
  • Seamless Warping
    • Stars from nearby star systems can now be directly targeted and warped to from space, without opening the Galaxy Map.
    • If the current mission target is interstellar, the nearby star will be indicated with the mission icon.
  • Multi-Tool Mode Wheel
    • Multi-Tool modes can now be selected via a radial menu.
  • Space Holo-Arenas
    • A Holo-Arena challenger has appeared at deep-space outposts, with a unique battle configuration.
  • Quality of Life
    • Orbital constructions in deep space can now be uploaded to the server.
    • Improved the mission guidance for retrieving materials from asteroid belts and hulks with a corvette and gravitino coil.
    • Deep-space materials added in the Cosmos update can now be pinned in the catalogue, for additional guidance in locating them.
    • Added the exterior space station decoration parts to the Catalogue.
    • Added a corvette landing pad to planetary trading outposts.
    • The Oxygen Harvester may now be constructed anywhere on a planetary surface, not just within a base.
    • Improved the layout of the technology research trees at the Construction Research Station.
    • Improved the text for a number of space station mission agent missions.
    • Improved the variety of descriptions for points of interest on the solar system map.
    • Improved the variety of mission names at the deep-space salvage & delivery contracts terminal.

There is also a quick trailer to describe the update.

And then a second trailer devoted to the iOS version, describing how they built out a new UI to play on a touch screen device.

That is kind of neat.  I am not sure I am going to run out and buy a copy for my iPad… first, my iPad is pretty old, as is my iPhone, and second I already own two copies of the game on PC (Steam and GoG) as well as a copy for my Switch 2.  But it is interesting that they decided to go to devices for their next platform.

Now the question is when will I find time to go get more corvette parts.  There is a lot going on and I am running out of free time to play.
